Onslow was founded in the spring of 1871 by E. M. Franks. Originally called “Franksville” but Franks demanded it be changed to Onslow, the name of the first governor of the state of Maine. Today the town has a population of approximately 200 people, has a local cafe, a gift & decor shop, several businesses, and hosts events in the city park on the south edge of town.
