In the 1850s, James A. Bronson came from Wyoming County, N.Y., and bought the present town site from Thomas Green at $14 an acre. With his brother, B.K. Bronson, and C.J. Marsh, the men platted the town in the winter of 1855, unofficially calling it Marshfield. It was incorporated in 1873, and named after Wyoming County, New York. Wyoming’s claim to fame is being known as the “Christmas City.” During the holiday season, visit Wyoming for its canopy of lights and other family fun Christmas events. The Hotel Williams Historic Museum, built in 1878 has three floors with 9,000 square feet of exhibits showcasing Wyoming and Jones County History. Wyoming hosts the Wyoming Fair every year in July, bringing thousands of visitors to the small community.
